Life jackets are always on the boat for you to use in the water while snorkelling and in fact the fins you are going to be wearing on your feet while snorkelling are anyways a flotation device also by default, but if you really cannot swim at all without a life jacket then it just means that you don’t know how to swim and then this Sri lanka trip is not suitable for you.
In short, we just don’t want people who do not know how to swim at all to come for this trip because then the whole focus is on taking care of them panicking in the water instead of enjoying the experience of swimming/ snorkelling the whales.
And if you also want to do the 3 day PADI Open Water Scuba diving Course by joining the longer extended package version of this trip, then a 200 mtr swim test is part of that course, no matter where you do this PADI Scuba diving course in the world.
So please join for the Scuba diving course only if you are a confident swimmer or invest in swimming lessons over the next few weeks before you come for this trip.

You can either choose to come for a shorter 4 nights/5 days trip (Only snorkelling with whales package) option if you don’t want want to do the scuba diving course etc or if you don’t have enough time to take a longer holiday. This shorter trip package just includes the 3 snorkelling with whales excursions for 5 hours each day ( Full Details in the next Sections below) as a part of the trip and no Scuba diving courses etc which is available on the longer extended version of this trip, mentioned below.

You can choose the longer/extended 7 Nights/8 days trip (“Snorkelling with whales” + Scuba diving package) option which includes 2 to 3 Snorkelling with the whales excursions with us for 5 hours each day….
And after that….
If you are a beginner, you will also do a proper 3 day PADI Open Water Scuba diving License Course and learn to become an independent scuba diver and enjoy diving at various dive sites around the area over the next 3 days of the longer trip package.
If you are already an Open water certified diver then you can come do your 2-3 day PADI ADVANCED Open Water Course during the trip at various dive sites around the area and if you are already an experienced diver, then just do some fun dives at the various dives sites around the area over the next 3 days of the longer trip package.
And if you are already an advanced diver then you will do a 6 fun dives at various dives sites around the area over the next 3 days of the longer trip package.
Important Note: If you are severely overweight and not in good physical shape then this trip is not suitable for you because snorkelling with whales expeditions and the beginners scuba diving course (if you choose it) are strenuous activities that require stamina. Please talk to us before you sign up.
You will be staying with the rest of the group at this beautiful beach side resort with all comforts to ensure you have a fantastic holiday….
Spacious rooms just off the beach, great breakfast, a beautiful swimming pool and gardens where peacocks are a common sight in the mornings!
And all this, right off a gorgeous long beach white sand turquoise water beach which is going to be your home during this trip.
The sunrises from this spot are just incredible!!!
Important Note: Snorkelling with whales and scuba diving are separate activities happening on the trip.
You cannot go scuba diving with whales. The reason you can only snorkel with whales and not go scuba diving with them is because firstly, the special Government permits we acquire allow for only snorkelling with whales to be possible since getting the opportunity to be in the water with whales this is a highly restricted activity.
And this is the case almost everywhere in the world where being in the water with whales is possible.
And more importantly, it is simply not possible to scuba dive with whales in general since whales are mostly always on the move and fast and are not just hanging around at one dive site waiting for scuba divers to come hang with them 🙂
Because once you jump into the ocean with scuba gear, you become restricted to a small area around you which you can cover.
So the only way to get to be in the water with the whales is to snorkel with them.
So how does snorkelling with whales happen exactly?
We go in speedboats and patrol the general area where the whales are frequently seen and based on tips from local fishermen from that morning. We find them based on the air spouts they give out when they come to the surface to breathe, every few minutes.
We position our speedboat in their path by going faster and getting ahead while keeping a safe distance from them. We then jump into the water quickly to observe them in the water while snorkelling. And once they leave or dive down into the depths, we quickly get back into the speedboats and wait for signs of where they reappear on the surface to breath a few minutes later and again position our boat in their path, jump in and get our viewing.
Some times the whales go away, other times they may come in your direction (which will be the luckiest day or your life) and is still safe, they don’t mean or pose any harm to humans!
The same process repeats over and over, the entire time during a whale snorkelling expedition, pretty much anywhere in the world where this activity is possible.
Whales are harmless to human beings, we keep a safe distance from them anyway to mostly protect them from us than the other way round!

1)The INR 5000 per person deposit you will pay now to reserve your spot is fully refundable back to your account for the next 7 days anyway if you change your mind. In fact even after 7 days, this deposit is refundable as credit on any BEEP Trip in the future with no expiry!
So it’s absolutely safe.
2) Let’s say it’s closer to trip dates now and you need to cancel due to an emergency:
a) Anytime up to 45 days prior to Trip start dates:
60 percent of the total Trip Price will be refunded to your account immediately so that you don’t have to worry about having blocked a large amount of money with us.Only the remainder 40 percent of the total trip price (which would have been paid out by us to our vendors by then to organize the event and we don’t want them to lose any money either) would stay on hold and you will be able to use that remaining deposit money paid to us as credit on this trip next time or any BEEP trip in the future with no expiry.
So you won’t lose any money at all just in case there is any uncertainty, it’s completely risk free.
b)If you need to cancel in the last 45 days before the trip start dates for any reason, we will deal with this on a case to case basis as fairly as possible and reduce any losses to the very minimum for you and rule in Point 2a above will apply to the rest.
